Education in mutuality and tools for decentralisation

RSN's key projects for education in mutuality and tools for decentralisation include:-

  • Seminar events on Mutuality and Regeneration

RSN has run four high level seminars since 2007-. in partnership with the International Institute for Self-governance; the Schumacher Society (USA); the new economics foundation; the JAK Medlemsbank, (Sweden); The Centre for Community Enterprise (Canada). The key theme of these seminars has been mutual solutions for sustainable regeneration. In summer 2008 RSN ran a two-day conference that attracted expert national and international speakers. RSN is continuing to develop its learning programme and its role in facilitating cross-learning and collaborations between parallel sectors.

  • Nutshell Training

RSN managers have collaborated with new economics foundation to develop a two-day course on Sustainable Communities practice with Dr. Tony Gibson which has now been successfully piloted. RSN will expand this into a series of courses during 2009-2010. RSN will seek support from interested funders to develop a number of additional course units.

  • Local Economy Cookbook

The managers of RSN are working work with Shann Turnbull to produce a new adapted version of his "Building Sustainable Communities" handbook. This is intended to be a resource book for the Nutshell Training programme and a toolkit for community groups seeking to use convivial tools like Planning for Real, community banking, complementary currencies and community land trusts as mechanisms for rebuilding sustainable communities. Initial funding has been raised by an RSN Advisory Council member, Mike Lewis of the Canadian Centre for Community Renewal. Further funding will be sought for this project.
